I'm not sure what the solution is, but I can tell you the experience I've had on my own computer.  In Preference > Performance, I've turned off Use Graphics Processor. I did that when I started getting messages that my graphics professor was not compatible, even though it has the newest update and my computer is only about 2 years old. However, in order to use certain features, for instace facial recognigion in the Liquify filter, I turn Use Graphics Processor on. I'm not sure exactly what you want the illustration to look like. But this is what I did. Maybe that is what you are looking for:  Starting with the outer shape: I copied the shape and edited it using Pathfinder so that it wasn't as wide.  I put the text inside the edited shape, Making sure that the edited shape with on top of the text. Selecting both the text and dthe outer shape,and choosing Object > Envelope Distort > Make with top object resuted in this: Then I overlapped the text onto the original outer shape: You may want to adjust some of the letters. If so, select the text object and Object > Expand > Object. then Object > Path > Simplify. Now you can manipulate the anchor points on the text to adjust it. ... View more
